Gadgets- we love them, our parents hate them, and our grandmothers have a pretty difficult time comprehending how your phone can turn off your tube light. But if you’re yet another college-goer who somewhat has an idea of what’s doing rounds of the market but have no clue how to implement them in your TribeStays life, fret not. Here are 5 uber cool gadgets that is sure to make your hostel room a super chill zone-

Coral Tree Quantum Lamp Lights

These hexagonal touch-operated lights give your bedside the perfect oomph. Let your creativity flow with them as they are delivered as individual pieces and you can arrange them in whatever way you like- think a cute geometric heart or maybe even the deathly hallows symbol! And not to mention that you can adjust the brightness depending on how many you decide to switch on, maybe a cozy dim for the guitar strumming session or a full blow for exam nights. No getting up from the comfort of your blanket to switch off lights anymore- just one tap, and you’re good to doze off.

Google Nest Mini

As the name suggests, this mini buddy will fit anywhere, even if your desk is as messy as Jake Peralta’s. Play your favorite tunes, set alarms while half-asleep, set a reminder to finally pick up your laundry, all through a simple voice command. Oh, and for all of you residing underneath Mumbai’s sneaky little clouds, you can also set it to remind you when the weather takes a turn so that you don’t forget to carry your umbrella while rushing to the 8am lecture!

Hercules Tuff Charging Station Organizer

Tired of having to maintain routines for charging all your gadgets? Or not having enough ports to charge them all while you nap? Or having to think of the most insane jugaads to tether your phone to the plug because somebody decided to make a plug point in the middle of the wall? Welcome to the five-problems-one-solution for your electronics. Charge everything in one go and at one place without the hassle of a million wires intertwining themselves and say goodbye to having to scout for your tablets and laptops after those nights of heavy heavy drinking (Water, duh. Stay hydrated kids.)

Music Sleep Mask

This product doesn’t even need pitching because it’s plain genius. It’s a sleep mask that blocks out 100% light, has a built-in Bluetooth-connected 5.0 stereo sound headphones, a microphone for long conversations with bae without having to tire your hand out holding the phone, and is washable for extra Corona protection. Sleep to the sounds of your hometown or play Kabiraa on loop without having to worry about headphones poking (if you’re a side sleeper) after finally completing all your 234 assignments. The possibilities are endless, and so is our love for this product.

Ember Temperature Control Smart Mug 2

So the big exam’s tomorrow and you’ve just started out with chapter 4, you also have the perfect Frappuccino from Mamaliga but alas, where did you keep your highlighter? After ten minutes of intense scouting and cursing your luck, you finally find it. But there, your coffee’s all cold. This mug solves all your heat troubles, choose the exact temperature you want through the Ember app and the mug will maintain it for you. The mug has a smart wakeup too, unlike us. The mug stays in sleep mode all throughout to save battery and wakes up when a liquid is poured into it. It’s washable as well- submersible even, up to 1 entire meter.

5 great hostel room decoration ideas that you can use to upgrade your rooms at almost no cost!

Ever looked at those gorgeous dorm rooms in every American college movie and dreamt of having one similar to it? Did you also have plans to completely revamp your hostel room in your first year but never got around to doing it because you didn’t know how to do it? Oh, and are you also broke like the rest of us because Swiggy is life?

Before I continue with my parade of questions and end up asking if your toothpaste has salt in it, let’s jump straight into these 5 super easy DIYs that will completely transform your hostel room without burning a hole in your pocket.

DIY Vinyl Wall Clock

In the age of “Me and the boys have known each other since we were kids,”, if you’re an old soul who loves turntable tracks, this DIY may just be the perfect representation of who you are. Grab some old scratched records or buy some for less than 100 rupees from a street seller and turn it into a fully functional clock! This may even be just the  activity you and your roommate needed to foster bonding and it is sure to add a personalized touch to the room. You may even reuse a clock dial from a boring clock and choose records that match the color palette of your room. For some extra oomph, paint the hands of the clock with glow-in-the-dark ink so that you can read the time without having to switch on the lights at night! Further instructions here.

Washi Tape Photo Frames

Most hostels have a strict no-drilling policy, and in scenarios like those, you miss out on hanging photo frames. Randomly sticking pictures on your walls may give off an odd look too as it doesn’t provide too much structure. That’s when these uber cute washi tapes come to save the day. Let your creativity flow as this DIY allows you to mix and match prints, colors and shapes galore or take inspiration from one of these photos for a foolproof aesthetic vibe. You also don’t have to restrict yourself to just pictures- put up your amusement park tickets from your first date or even the passes from your first ever college fest and turn your drab wall into a memento of fond memories!

Electric Tea Light Jars

After submitting 234 assignments and frantically meeting your professor’s unrealistic deadlines, sometimes, all you need is a dim room and some of your favorite tunes. For lazy days like those, these tea light jars radiate the perfect amount of light to help you relax. All you need are some mason jars (the jars in which your mother packed your aam ka aachar works just fine!), a piece of fabric whose print you absolutely adore (maybe an old scarf or a cushion cover you accidentally spilled coffee on?) and some mod podge (you can make your own Indian jugaad version of it by combining 2 parts white glue and one part water). Paint the jar fully with a layer of mod podge and stick the fabric onto it. Once this has dried, finish it off with another layer of mod podge over the fabric. Don’t worry about crinkles, as these will only add to the look and give dimension to the light through shadows. Place electric tea lights inside this to avoid fire hazards from real candles and you’re in-house-spa is ready to unwind in!

Fabric Storage Bins

Have extra fabric left from the electric tea light jars DIY? We’ve got you covered. If there’s one thing that transcends race, caste, creed, and gender, sexuality, morals, principles, food habits, and geographical locations, it’s Amazon’s cardboard boxes. Whether you have shopped online or not, these sneaky objects have a way of springing up in every corner of your house from time to time. Turn these drab brown cartons into cute little storage units by covering them with fabric and mod podge. You may even cut two holes into either side of these boxes and loop painted rope through it to make handles. These will not only add uniformity and tidiness to your room but can also be used for a plethora of purposes, from laundry basket needs to hiding your snacks from your roomies XD

Magnetic Wall Map

If you have an accent wall in your room that’s lying bare, you can use it as motivation to get out more often. You don’t always have to travel the entire world to experience magic; put up a map of Maharashtra instead and add a magnet to every weekend getaway you visit in your college years. If you’re wondering what some good places around you to visit are, check out 4 amazing weekend trips you can take with your buddies here. Alternatively, if you’re somebody who lives to eat and are not from around the area, you may also print a map of the must-try food joints around the city and tick them off once visited. So whether you’re gorging on piping hot vada pavs from opposite Mithibai college or stuffing yourself full of authentic Bohri food in Colaba, this wall map will stand testimony to all your gastronomic adventures. Raigad

We’re sure that our history buffs have read all about this town that was Chhatrapati Shivaji’s capital back in the 1600s. This epicenter of the Maratha empire has been talked about in leaps and bounds in all our 10th grade history books and now it’s finally time to go see it in flesh and blood. Termed as the “Gibraltar of the East”, the controversies and history that surround the fort throng in thousands. Don’t forget to explore the Rani Vasa, the six chambers of the queen, or the Royal Bath with hidden underground cellars that were once used for top secret activities like worshipping Bhavani Mata and storing loot from numerous wars. Takmak Tok is a steep cliff that plunges 1200 ft deep and it is believed that this is the point from where wrongdoers were pushed off to their deaths by Shivaji himself. And then there’s the legend of Hirakani Buruj, of the woman named Hirakani who came to sell milk inside the fort one day but got trapped inside when the doors got locked. But we’re not going to ruin it for you, visit this iconic monument in person to hear the full story of how she made it out from the local travel guides who say it the best after climbing the 1737 steps that lead to the fort or taking a cable car up to it.

“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” – Jane Goodall

The value of personal advancement cannot be overstated. It’s the key to distinguishing ourselves from the crowd, the bridge that leads us to the milestones we are yet to achieve. TOTEM’21 transpired with an aim to well round and invest some time in personal growth and development of each and everyone at Tribe as well as discuss the future of Tribe and what the vision should be like five years down the road. Including funds, assets, sites, number of beds and a lot more. The two day conference took place latterly and shall be a part of Tribe every coming year from this day on.

Meeting goals can be difficult sometimes & without a careful and detailed plan it can be a real task. Our highest gratitude to Mihika Bhanot and team (Mihika Bhanot Image Consultancy), we sincerely appreciate her guidance in helping us learn new things, practice and see the end result in improved productivity. Thank you for being a part of our path towards the exploration and enhancement of self and the protrusion of a portrait: fitting, in line with the ideals of the Tribe, to forge on with great success.

These two days were nothing but fun, brimming with team bonding, value gaining, knowledge sharing, acquiring confidence, knowing one another better and most importantly an amusing experience for everyone at Tribe. Starting the days with presentations from CEO, Co-founders and all the members to attain knowledge and comprehend other departments and the work that they perform. From exchanging knowledge, managing appearance- clothing, grooming, body language and etiquettes to many fun games.. all of us had a fun filled day gifting mementos, up-skilling & enhancing.

Moving forward with a vision of skill development, learning and growing together as a team to sharpen our skills and have a personal outlook for the future. To improve effectiveness, empower & understand each other to produce better results and meet targets. Primarily personal growth is an essential part of life with numerous far-reaching benefits. Time and money invested in improving yourself or your staff are never wasted; they still return rich incentives.
